Trident Swim School

Our Programs and Classes

Our Swim School offers both private and group lessons for swimmers of all levels, from beginners to advanced (Levels 1-4). Our swim school focuses on teaching and perfecting strokes, making swimming enjoyable for all.

Swim Levels

Level 1: Starfish (approx. 3-5 yrs) - Beginner level with a 1:4 instructor-to-student ratio. Students are introduced to the basics of swimming and water safety. This introductory course helps children become comfortable in water while learning to safely enter and exit the pool, develop fundamental water safety skills, and build water confidence. Instructor is in the water with students as they practice basic breath control exercises, face submersion techniques, assisted floating on front and back, kicking with support, and initial arm movements—all through engaging games and developmentally appropriate activities designed to create a positive first swimming experience.

Level 2: Nemos (approx. 5 yrs+) - Intermediate level with a 1:4 instructor-to-student ratio. Children who can swim short distances unassisted (minimum 10 yards) and can swim a full lap (25 yards) with a flotation device or kickboard. Students can swim independently for 4-6 feet and demonstrate fundamental skills (submersion, floating, gliding, rolling over). In this class, instructor is in the water as swimmers build confidence in deep water, refine freestyle and backstroke techniques, and develop rotary breathing through engaging drills, jumps, and sitting dives.

Level 3: Dolphins (approx. 6 yrs+) - Children who can swim a full lap (25 yards) independently and demonstrate freestyle and backstroke. With a 1:5 instructor ratio and instructor teaching from outside the water, swimmers confidently navigate deep water while refining freestyle and backstroke techniques. Focus is placed on proper body position, stroke mechanics, breathing patterns, treading water, floating, and changing directions. Students are introduced to breaststroke and butterfly fundamentals, as well as sitting and standing dives through engaging drills and activities.

Level 4: Sharks (approx. 8 yrs+) - Children who can demonstrate freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke, and may have knowledge of the butterfly stroke. With a 1:6 instructor-to-student ratio, this level serves as preparation for our pre-team competitive swimming groups, ideal for swimmers who want to develop competitive skills but are not yet ready to commit to our pre-team program. Swimmers focus on mastering the mechanics of breaststroke and butterfly while building stamina and endurance through longer distances. This level introduces more advanced diving techniques off the blocks, competitive starts and turns, and emphasizes refining all four strokes with improved efficiency through hydrodynamics. Students will demonstrate basic competency in all four competitive strokes, preparing them for the transition to our competitive swimming program when they're ready.

Important Registration Information:

Swimmers with NO water experience MUST enroll in our 1:1 beginner private lesson, as space and availability permit.

We strongly recommend contacting us at swimschool@tridentaquaticclub.com BEFORE registering for proper level placement.

LEVELS 2, 3, and 4 require prior swimming experience and specific skills as outlined above. Improper placement can impact your child's learning experience and safety.

Our swim school coordinator will gladly assist you in determining the appropriate level for your child.

Policies

INSTRUCTORS:

Our dedicated instructors strive to provide consistency for your child's swimming experience. Occasionally, another qualified instructor may cover a lesson when your regular instructor has a scheduling conflict. Many of our instructors are competitive swimmers and college students who occasionally participate in swim meets and have academic commitments on select weekends. Additionally, a few of our instructors are USA Swimming certified coaches who may sometimes be absent due to team swim meet commitments. We appreciate your understanding as we balance consistency with our instructors' growth opportunities and professional development.

LOCKER ROOM FACILITIES:

Staff locker rooms are available for your use. We kindly request that you leave the facilities in the same condition you found them. Please note that Wagner College cannot assume responsibility for lost or damaged personal items.

Please use locker rooms for all changing needs. For safety and privacy reasons, changing on the pool deck or in hallways is not permitted.

To ensure everyone's comfort and privacy, boys are not permitted in the women's locker room regardless of age. If you need assistance with changing your child, our family changing room is available upon request. Simply ask our deck supervisor, and a staff member will be happy to provide access to this facility for you.

Occasionally, locker rooms may be closed by the facility during special events or games. During these times, please use the restrooms located upstairs across from the viewing area for changing.

We recommend that all swimmers arrive in their swimwear beneath their regular clothes for convenience. Please bring:

  • Goggles (traditional style, not full-face masks that cover the nose)
  • A towel for each child
  • Hair ties for long hair (swim caps are optional)

PARENT OBSERVATION POLICY:

  • Children with disabilities who require additional assistance
